Pastor Maung Law Tam’s Testimony
I was born to a so-called Roman Catholic family in 1997 in Midat township, Southern Chin State, upper Myanmar. My father had two wives, Daw Om Zuan and Daw Ha Om. My mother is Daw Om Zuan; she has eleven children, and Daw Ha Om has seven children. So I have lots of brothers and sisters. Among them, there are more girls than boys. According to our tribe, men can have up to three wives, according to tradition. Even nowadays, many men have more than one wife. My parents are cultivators. As a big family, my parents are working hard to support our daily food and education programs.
I grew up in an ungodly family. I used to enjoy drinking with my young friends. One day, a preacher came and preached the gospel to our village. I attended the two-day teaching about salvation. The preacher taught us about sin, why Jesus Christ died for us, and how those who believe in Him have eternal life, which is a gift. He proclaimed the whole gospel; I was convicted and put my faith in Jesus Christ.
After reading several books of the New Testament, I felt that I needed to preach the gospel of salvation to those who did not know it. When I read 2 Timothy 4:2, “preach the word in season and out of season..”. I decided to serve God throughout my life. My prayer was fulfilled by God when I joined the Biblical Institute of Theology in June 2016, and I graduated in February 2020. Praise the Lord. Now I am preparing for church planting ministry nearby Yangon City. My Principal, Rev. Dr. Thawng Nei Bil, had advised me to start a church planting at Wat-in-poh village, Hlegu township, Yangon division, where about 1500 people and about 1000 war refugees are living. Therefore, please pray for me that I may serve as a church planter from 2021.
Recent Ministry:
The bad weather caused diseases, and almost all my members got sick. During the month of October, it rained heavily almost every day, flooding many areas around us. Praise the Lord, our area did not flood. I helped the members who were ill see a doctor, and they have recovered. I was able to visit their homes and pray for them.
People are in a difficult situation for family survival because it is very hard to get a job, and prices have increased greatly. Most of my members were from the countryside; they came here as refugees. Most were from Rakhine State, and others were from the Chin State Sagaing division. The rest were Buddhist converts.
- Give thanks to God for our weekly programs and outreach ministry.
- Give thanks to God also for your contribution to helping my members.
- Please pray that many more new people may come to know Jesus Christ and believe in God.
- Please pray for the ongoing gospel teaching.
Ongoing Ministry for Your Prayer:
We are suffering under many pressures and hardships. Even in the face of these difficulties, God’s ministry has been progressing in my field. We try our best to do the ministry, such as worship services, prayer meetings, and Bible study times regularly, even when the violence from civil war is around us. I also visit my members at least once a week and give encouragement and pray for their needs. I continue my outreach ministry to Saputaung village; every Sunday afternoon, we conduct worship service with them. The members there invite new people every week so they can hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I also would like to give thanks to God that my overseers helped my members’ daily food by contributing some rice and vegetables. The prices of everything increased about three or four times. The civil war has been continuing everywhere, so the prices are increasing rapidly. Therefore, please continue to pray for us.
I plan to conduct gospel teaching for new people in November. Please pray that people will be willing to come and join us.
- Give thanks to God for our weekly programs and outreach ministry.
- I give thanks to God for the relief contribution that helped my members. The distribution was very effective because all my members had difficulty getting daily food.
- Please pray that many more people may come to know Jesus Christ.
- Please pray as we conduct the gospel teaching next month.
Thank you for your prayer support. God answers your prayers and keeps us safe. Many young people run to different places for their safety. The Lord has protected all my members. Praise the Lord. I evangelize our neighbors and share the gospel with them. Our weekly programs, such as worship service, prayer meetings, and Bible reading programs, are done regularly. I continue to conduct worship services in Sabutaung village and Wat-in-poh village. Praise the Lord.
We conducted gospel camping at my place during the water festival holidays. The participants were pleased to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. I hope the gospel seed will grow and many will receive Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.
Several times, I was informed about the military recruiters. Because many young people run away, they try even to get married people, so please pray for my family and me.
All my members are challenged by situations of surviving family daily food, life security, and health conditions, so we need your prayer help.
Give thanks to God for the success of gospel camping in April. Pray that the participants may continue to think about the salvation story. Pray for the political situation to cease soon to have peace and freedom. Pray that the people in my area may hunger for the gospel and open their hearts to Jesus Christ. Pray for my wife; she will give birth to our baby soon.
Under many pressures and difficulties, the Lord keeps us safe. Our weekly programs, such as home cells, prayer meetings, and worship services at two places, are doing well. Many young people in my area have run away to other places because military groups come and try to recruit young people for soldiers. I was advised to run away from my place, but I refused because the Lord appointed me to work for church planting here.
In March, I visited my members in Wat-in-poh and Saputaung and prayed for them, especially for their safety and daily food. The civil war affected many places in Paletwa, but I tried my best to encourage them through the Bible. I also met some non-Christian families, shared the gospel with them, and prayed for their daily needs.
I plan to conduct a gospel camping event during the water festival holidays. Please pray so that more people may come and listen to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Give thanks to God for outreach ministry and weekly programs, which are going well. Give thanks to God for keeping and providing for us. Pray for our country that the civil war may cease soon, and we may have peace.
During February, our ministry was doing well without any hindrance. Though we were not free to evangelize to people, I tried my best to help people and reach them with the gospel of Jesus Christ. I praise the Lord for allowing us to conduct our home cells, prayer meetings, and worship services regularly. How great the goodness of God.
I went to Sabutawng weekly to conduct a worship service and teach the gospel to non-Christians. Though the new people did not respond verbally, they were happy and interested in hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ. I hope that the new people may join our worship service regularly.
Thanks to God for our outreach ministry and weekly programs, which went well. Thanks to God for His faithfulness in keeping His children. Pray for our co-workers who fled for safety and that all fighting may cease soon.
Thank you for your continuing support. My church members and I pray for you and all church planters in different countries. Our weekly services in January went well: prayer meetings, home cells, and worship services in two locations, Wat-In-poh and Sabutawng villages. The Lord provides our daily food in time; in the second week of January, my mother’s church bought rice, onions, and cooking oil bottles and distributed them to my church members. They all were thankful and praised the Lord. My church members are progressing in their knowledge of God and enthusiastically participate in our weekly services.
Prayer requests:

Give thanks to God also for our weekly programs.Pray for some of our co-workers (church planters) who had to leave for their safety and pray that all fighting may cease soon. Praise God for bringing us to a blessed New Year 2024. May the God of Almighty bless you all.
The Lord bless thee and keep thee: the Lord make his face shine upon thee and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up His countenance upon thee and give thee peace.
Numbers 6:24-26 KJV
In my ministry in November and December, I reached out to new people in my area and Sabutawng village, and we conducted one day of gospel training for non-Christians. I thank God that about 20 people came and listened to the gospel of Jesus Christ. They were pleased. I invited my friend, Pastor Hoi Ceu, to help with the teaching. We often could not go out for evangelism because of political problems, but sometimes the Lord opens a way to reach people. Praise the Lord.
We celebrated Christmas in two places: Sabutawng village and my place. Several new people heard about Jesus the Savior, born in Bethlehem. I thank God more people are interested in hearing about the salvation story.
Christmas Celebrations
Thanks to God for the success of our Christmas season ministry and Christmas celebrations! Thanks to God for our weekly programs, such as Bible study, home cells and prayer meetings, and Sunday worship services. Pray for the New Year 2024 that the Lord may open many more doors of ministry. Pray for our country; we need freedom and peace. I am grateful for your prayers and support for my family and ministry. May the Lord continue to bless you all. Yours in Christ’s service,
Our God is faithful in keeping His children. Though we are undergoing political crisis, He provides for our needs and keeps us safe from all kinds of evil till today. Praise His precious Holy Name.
My ministry this summer was doing well in that we were able to conduct our weekly services without fail. Though we are few in number, we do our best for the service of God. The most constant problem is daily food and safety. My members are poor and uneducated, so getting a proper job is challenging. Some of them eat a single meal a day, sometimes only porridge. We praise God that my oversees’ church is able to provide relief goods of rice and distribute this among my members. They were very happy for the food.
During the summer there was a lot of rain, and some places were flooded so we could not go out much of the time. I helped my members and the surrounding people as best as I could. When people are sick, I assist in getting them to the hospitals or clinics.
I continue to share the gospel despite the hardships of the weather and travel. One young man, Maung Aye Chan has received Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord. Pray for him to take baptism soon.
- Give thanks to God for the safety of my members and our weekly services.
- Give thanks to God for the three bags of rice which was received from my overseer Pastor Thawng Nei Bil.
- Pray for my outreach ministry so that the Lord may open hearts and they will come to know Jesus is the Savior of all men.
- Pray hard for the widow of Ko Kayin, one of my church members, he had been sick for a couple of weeks. He suddenly passed away during the night, he was thirty-six. We are grateful that the costs of the funeral were covered by my overseer and his church. He was buried the next day with the help of my co-workers Pastor Paw Oo and Pastor Toe Toe. Pray for his widow, they had no children.
- Pray for our country, Myanmar. We need freedom and peace.
