The gospel was proclaimed, and God moved in people’s hearts to bring life to those who believed. During Crossover on New Year’s Eve, one hundred people responded to the call to repent and believe in Jesus Christ.

Pastor Yoshiya Okita’s Testimony
I was born into a Christian family. My father is a pioneer church planter. From infancy, I grew up listening to Bible stories. Everything around me taught the Bible. I was involved with Christian picture books, Scripture Memorization, attending Sunday School, worship services, and family devotions. I accepted it all without question. Then, in third grade, I was baptized, just as the natural progression of things. I certainly believed in Jesus Christ, but I had just accepted what my parents taught me. It wasn’t my own faith yet. I had always been a bit shy. After starting school, it was hard to get used to the new class each year, especially when I started 4th grade. I couldn’t break into the central circle of our classmates, and I felt like an outsider.
You get bullied when you’re on the fringe in Japan, and I went through bullying that whole year. One kid commented negatively about me, and instantly, all the guys that had been my friends just dropped me and joined the in-crowd. I could see how easily friends could be divided and swept away at that young age, and I realized, “This is what sin does to people.” I was caught in loneliness and anxiety from that point on.
In junior high, I started teaching Sunday School to the little kids in church, mostly because I was looking for a place to belong. One day, I argued with my mother about how the church conducted Sunday School. She exasperated and said, “I don’t know what’s the matter with you!” That question shook me to my core. I don’t know why I was so upset at the time, but I ran to my room sobbing, and I started to pray to Jesus. I asked him not to leave me alone. It was the first time I had reached out to Jesus in prayer. After that, everything changed; Jesus became alive to me, and I began a new life of faith.
Everything that I had been hearing about Jesus became real. Jesus was really alive, loved me, and was with me. And, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Matthew 28:20 From that point, I began a new life of faith, and I continually sought the Lord, learned to listen to His Word, and the Scriptures became the foundation of my life. Jesus Christ is my Savior and Lord.

Family Worship with Short-Term Team
Through the introduction of another church in our prefecture, we welcomed a short-term mission team from a church in California. Along with their visit, we held a Family Worship Service as an outreach event, with the hope of inviting children who do not typically attend worship services, along with their families. Unfortunately, no children came, but we were thankful that several older people who usually do not attend worship joined us. One of them was Ms. Tomiko Sato, who had only participated in Easter worship once. Since that day, however, she has continued to attend worship every week for a month. Although the outcome was different from our plan, we received it with gratitude as God’s guidance.
The team encountered travel difficulties: their scheduled flight was canceled, and most members were unable to arrive in time for the worship service. However, one member who had come to Japan earlier was able to share a testimony during the service.
In fact, much of July did not go as planned; yet, we were repeatedly reminded that God’s plans were still unfolding amid it all.

Participation in Youth Camp
From our chapel, three of us—including one junior high student, Toya Yoshino, and my wife and I—attended the Japan Conservative Baptist Association’s youth camp in Miyagi. Although we were disappointed that two high school students had to cancel at the last minute, we felt the Lord’s guidance in allowing us to focus on walking closely with Toya.
Toya started attending a Christian mission school this year, where he regularly hears God’s Word through chapel and Bible classes. During camp, I had daily one-on-one talks with him and was encouraged by the positive influence of his new school. Toya told me that he “believes about 75% of the Bible,” but finds the remaining 25% hard to accept—especially Jesus’ healings, which seem mysterious to him. However, on the last day, he said he wanted to learn more about Jesus. At the same time, he admitted that school and club activities currently leave him little time for further study. Please pray that he will continue to encounter God’s Word, experience it personally, and truly come to know Jesus.
Plans for Next Month
- Kids’ Day Camp
- Kids’ Summer Festival
- We will also host a pulpit exchange with a pastor from Yamamoto Town, Watari District, who is originally from the area. Before the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, this town had no church. In much of the Tohoku region, Christianity and the Bible are still seen as “foreign.” We hope that through the testimony and preaching of a local pastor, people will feel that the Bible is more relatable to their own lives.
New Visitors and Seekers

We hosted a Revival Mission evangelistic event called GoTo Mission. We had been praying for new connections when another church introduced this opportunity. As with our regular events, we distributed flyers door-to-door and prayed together while waiting for the gathering. At the same time, we honestly wondered whether people would come to such a meeting in this day and age. In the end, along with some non-believers who already attend our church, one person came who had never been to church before. We are very thankful. (Photo 1: Go to Mission)
That person came at the invitation of a non-believing friend who had started attending our church this spring. Through this, we realized again that beyond the wide distribution of flyers, sincerely engaging with those non-believers who are already attending leads to the next connection.
We had an online coaching session that offered many helpful insights and encouragement. It emphasized the balance between ministry in the local church and responsibilities within the wider denomination. Lately, I have felt increased strain from numerous denominational meetings and tasks. The wise counsel from the senior pastors on the committee truly resonated with me, reminding me that it is a pastor’s duty to set boundaries and prioritize evangelism and shepherding within my church.
Akio and Kumiko Saito, a couple with previous pastoral experience at another church, officially transferred their membership to our church. They had been worshiping and studying the Word with us for nearly two years before making this decision. Since they also have church-planting experience, their transfer is a great encouragement to us as a couple, and we are deeply strengthened by their understanding of pastoral ministry and church life. Starting this month, I began taking a Biblical Greek course with several other pastors from the Conservative Baptist Fellowship. During seminary, I studied very little of the original languages, so my Greek knowledge has been limited to only some vocabulary. Now, as we encourage each other in class, I am challenged to read Scripture in the original text. For now, I can only follow along with explanations, but I am moved by the richness of nuances that do not come through in Japanese translations.
Ms. S is a seeker
Ms S., a seeker studying the Bible with us, has decided to accept Christ in her heart. Hallelujah! At the joint worship service for the Tohoku region held by the Keisen Christian Church Group last month,

the pastor of the parent church encouraged her by saying, “What matters is not whether you understand everything, but whether you believe.” Ms S., a seeker studying the Bible with us, has decided to accept Christ in her heart. Hallelujah! At the joint worship service for the Tohoku region held by the Keisen Christian Church Group last month, the pastor of the parent church encouraged her by saying, “What matters is not whether you understand everything, but whether you believe.” Following that, during our study sessions, she shared that she now believes in Jesus and wishes to be baptized. She hopes to be baptized during the summer, when she is usually in the best physical and mental condition, and we are now preparing for that. Please pray that as she prepares, her faith will be strengthened and that she will be able to receive baptism with great joy. (Ms S. is the second one from the left in the photo)
Prayer Requests
- Please pray that Ms. E, still seeking, will be guided to decide for Christ.
- Please pray for Ms. S as she prepares for baptism next month. We are especially encouraging her to prepare her testimony to express her faith clearly.
- Please pray for new connections, particularly that elementary school children and their families will be drawn to the church.
- Some elderly members have been struggling with health issues due to the summer heat and changing temperatures. Also, as my wife and I have had a busy season of camps and summer activities, please pray for physical and spiritual strength for everyone in the church.
- Please pray for my responsibilities in the Conservative Baptist Association and the Miyagi Baptist Fellowship. Pray that I can serve with a good balance between denominational work and our local church, and that I will have the discernment to decline service requests when necessary to prioritize our congregation.
- For Ms. E Yoshino (Toya’s mother), who is still seeking to be guided towards a clear decision of faith.
- For Ms. S, who is preparing for baptism. She is becoming more nervous as the day approaches, but we pray she will enter her baptism with joy.
- To attract local children to the church. Currently, our Sunday School students are from the neighboring town. Please pray that we can encounter children who can attend on their own from our immediate area, and that God will grant us wisdom in how to reach out effectively.

As part of our Wednesday fellowship program, we organized a cherry blossom viewing (locally called hanami) outing.
Although we planned to manage attendance through a registration system, a miscommunication during the tallying process resulted in more people than seats available in our transport vehicles. Fortunately, with the support of another local church that sent missionaries and lent us a car, P01, we were able to accommodate everyone. This event served as a powerful reminder of how much our network of local churches supports us.
Since April, Ms. T.S. (pictured in the front row, far right) has been attending the Wednesday fellowship meetings every week, as invited by a friend.

Although she often says things like, “This is hard,” or “I don’t get it,” during Bible studies and worship, she brings a notebook each time and participates diligently. The friend who invited her is also a non-believer, and we’re thankful that our church is becoming a space where people feel comfortable inviting friends. On the other hand, we’re also challenged by the fact that newcomers often say Bible studies and worship are “difficult.” I sense the need to grow in making my messages and studies more accessible, not just for those already used to church life and the Bible, but also those newly seeking.

On Easter Sunday, we held an Easter worship service and a celebration gathering afterward. As in past years, we want to continue holding seasonal celebrations alongside worship as opportunities for members to invite family and friends.
The fellowship time was very joyful. After the celebration, two mothers of Sunday school students stayed at the church until the evening, and we had a wonderful conversation. Reflecting on the fellowship time, the mothers repeatedly said things like, “Christians carry themselves with grace,” “They’re different from the people around me,” “If I stay the way I am, I’ll just go along with the crowd and become self-centered,” and even, “Maybe becoming a Christian is the only way.” In that moment, we explained the gospel again—how Christians are not perfect people but those who acknowledge their sin, repent, and seek to follow Jesus, being transformed by God’s Word each day. While they didn’t decide then and there, we could sense their hearts opening, and we’re truly thankful.

Children’s Blessing Ceremony
We are thankful that we were able to pray and prepare, together as church members, for passing God’s blessings to the next generation in the Children’s Blessing Ceremony. We all prayed and prepared for the event with the goal of inviting children and their families to worship and celebrate with us. Although no children had attended worship services for the past several months, we are thankful that on the day of the service, four elementary school students and two mothers attended.
After the service, we had a Japanese Taro stew party for lunch, a typical winter event in Tohoku, and had fellowship with everyone. Currently, mothers can only come to worship services during events like this, but we feel that the hurdle is gradually being lowered. Through this kind of fellowship, we aim to expand the connection with the children and their families, from fellowship with our pastor and his wife to fellowship with the church. We feel that we are gradually beginning to see the buds of such a relationship.
Jinsei, a middle school student from our church neighborhood, has attended worship services from time to time this school year. Jinsei’s school is a mission-founded school; thus, he explains to us that if he attends a church service semi-regularly and submits reports, it will be counted toward his internal score. We have invited him to several events in the past. He came to the Taro stew party during the Children’s Blessing Ceremony. We are happy that he made an intentional step forward to visit our church in a part of his life not directly related to his school performance. He seems to be sensing some differences between the Bible stories he hears in school classes and the sermons he hears at our church, and he is beginning to take an interest in the gospel being preached at church. We hope to have a regular relationship with him. Please pray for opportunities to open up.
We welcomed a mission trip team from First Baptist Church Woodstock in the United States to make our special event happen. What was gratifying for us was that Misato, a high school student, came to our church for the first time in a long time. We had a fellowship with Misato after everyone left after the event. The other day, she attended the worship service and also attended the Conservative Baptist junior high and high school Christmas party together. We are thankful that fellowship opportunities getting connected with Misato gradually are growing. She feels peace in the Word, but at the same time, she is aware that she is not a Christian. Please pray that she will open her heart and accept Jesus.

- Pray for the salvation of Eriko, who is studying the Bible with us.
- Pray for Jinsei’s interest in the gospel to be opened.
- Pray for preparations and good cooperation among local churches for the outreach gatherings.
- Pray that we can catch the Lord’s leading well and plan our children’s ministry outreach accordingly.
- Pray that we can nurture and send out church members who are moving.
- Pray that we will have new opportunities for outreach within our community.
In September, the 60th-anniversary meeting of the Japan Conservative Baptist Association was held in Miyagi Prefecture, and I served as a Miyagi representative on the organizing committee. As a committee member of the host prefecture, I had to liaise with the venue facilities and hold meetings with the volunteer-serving churches.
It was itself a great experience for me. What we at Sennan Chapel were grateful for was that members of Sennan Chapel were also able to take part in this special event. In the past, I had my personal experience serving at Conservative Baptist Union events, but we have never had the opportunity as our church to participate in such an event. Before this event, I invited and called the attention of the congregation at our church about this opportunity, and some responded. At the 60th anniversary event, members of Sennan Chapel were given the role of a reception counter. It may have been a small step, but we were grateful for that opportunity as a church to serve. The members who took part in the service said they would like to meet more Christians from other churches at similar opportunities in the future. We hope that the networking inter-churches will further strengthen and do well for our member development in the future.
I am involved in the U30 Pastor Training in a Barnabas coaching role, intending to pass on what I have received to the next person. I am in charge of a pastor who just started church planting this year. Member-caring him and listening to his stories allows me to look at the work of my church in a new light.
Keisen Christ Church and Sennan Chapel held a joint camp for young people between junior high school and 30s. I participated as the pastor in charge. From our church, an American youth, Davien, traveled with me to the camp. There are no other young members from his age group at Sennan Chapel, and this camp for youth and young professionals was a big encouragement to him. On the car ride, Davien asked me how Japanese people could become Christians and why are there no young adults at Sennan Chapel. He asked me these very frank but important questions. I could not give him an immediate answer, but I listened to him sharing with me about how he was led to faith in Christ back in the U.S. Then I told him the history of Sennan Chapel and the stories of those who have been saved, and together we had a dialogue about how we could lead young people to church. We continue to search for the answers to these questions and hope to be a good team.
- Pray for the spiritual growth of high school students Waka and Akane, who were led to a profession of faith, and for my wife and I to develop good relationships and lead them in discipleship.
- Pray for me as I build a relationship with Davien, the young American man. We communicate in both English and Japanese but are not able to fully express what we want to say.
- Please pray for me that I will be able to maintain my spiritual and physical health as I continue to serve as a committee member at the Keisen Christ Church Network Conference and other interdenominational gatherings. Pray that I can be sustained in serving in good balance with the ministry of my own planting church and for other groups.
We held a family worship service and BBQ gathering called Family Day. This initiative was aimed at inviting the families of the children, who usually gather at the Sunday School, to church. Our previous report shared that Masaya, a primary school student, had not attended worship for a while. He recently resumed attending worship, and on this day, as well. Thank you for your prayers. Along with his salvation, everyone in the church prayed that his family would be led to the church activities. I praise God that his middle school sister, Mami, attended the morning service for the first time on this family day. The Lord answered our prayers as his mother, A, and Masaya’s high school student sister, Ami, attended the BBQ after the service. The mother, Ai, became friends with the mothers of the other families that day. Church members prayed and thought about how to care for Masaya so that he would feel excited and more welcome. One of the church members always encourages Masaya to attend the service by preparing sweets and goodies to pass to him when he comes. We are grateful for the congregation’s action.
We also sense a deepening of our fellowship with another seeker family. Their two children, Touya, grade 6, and Kotone, grade 4, attend our Sunday School. Their mother, Eriko, has recently come along and recited scripture verses together with her children. The other day, after Sunday School, Eriko told us of her concern for Touya, who was withdrawn and not attending school. Eriko prays to God herself, and I am grateful that we could pray together then. We hope this will allow the family to experience the Lord’s amazing work. Touya is quiet and not good at expressing emotions, and we were concerned that he might be unable to enjoy church. We were thankful when we learned through Eriko that Touya was happy to attend Sunday School. During the holidays, they plan to participate in a camp with the churches of the Conservative Baptist Alliance in Miyagi Prefecture. Please pray with us that each member of the family will encounter Jesus.
- Pray for preparations for the upcoming camps, Miyagi Junior & Senior High School Students Camp and Sennan Kids Camp.
- Pray for the salvation of the families with whom we fellowship. I pray my wife and I can form closer relationships with both families.
- Pray for good understanding and consent from the parents of the children for their participation in the Bible camp.
Together with family members and relatives, we held a first-anniversary memorial service for my uncle, my father’s younger brother. He was a church member who went to heaven last year. My father’s younger brother, my uncle, married into a family where most relatives are unbelievers. We had the opportunity to share that the passed-away uncle has already been called to be with Jesus in heaven and that we, too, have a heavenly hope. My relationship with my relatives on my uncle’s side has deepened over the last year. I take the words of the Lord, ‘A grain of wheat falls to the ground,’ to my heart. Please pray with us for the salvation of the family.
Meetings and Fellowship
We have had many opportunities for meetings and fellowships with other churches, including the annual general meeting of the Japan Conservative Baptist Association and the one in Miyagi Prefecture, as well as attending pastor-appointing ceremonies held at different churches in the prefecture. At the Miyagi region’s pastors’ meeting, support for churches without a pastor has been on the main agenda. Although we are a church that aims to be self-supporting, we have been so preoccupied with the need for self-supporting that we have forgotten to work to create the next church plant. I am reminded that while we are aiming for independence, we want to continue to make a conscious effort for our next new church planting.
Seekers Coming To Christ
February was mostly a month of preparation for the Great East Japan Earthquake memorial service and concert. Our church was organizing two concerts: a joint concert with three churches in Watari-gun at the town hall and a chapel concert of our own. This was the first time the three churches in Watari-gun had held a joint event, so we had to plan everything from the ground up. However, I believe it was an opportunity to strengthen the church fellowship. We were also thankful that we could work together to distribute flyers. In addition to church members, Mr. and Mrs. M, a couple consisting of a Christian and a seeker who began attending the church last Christmas, volunteered to help distribute flyers, allowing us to deepen our relationship through our shared service. In the past, cooperation among churches was primarily limited to pastors, but we were grateful to participate alongside our church members this time and to have seekers join us.
Bible study with Mr. and Mrs. M began. Mrs. M contacted us and shared her desire to study the Bible. Then the couple decided to study together. In the first session, we learned from Noah’s Ark about our spiritual crisis and Jesus Christ, who is the Ark of our time. After the first session, Mrs. M shared her impression about the study. She shared that she could not fully believe in Jesus, although she was attracted to continue her studies, so she might someday believe in Him and live in Him. Since coming to church, she and her husband have started praying together at home, although they are not used to it. Our Bible study will continue, so please pray for Mrs. M for her to come and accept Christ.
Please pray for outreach opportunities and the salvation of the youth. Many of the youth coming to church this school year are in the 6th grade. We pray that we will be able to share the gospel well with them this year and that they will stay connected to Jesus and the church. The youth typically get so busy with school life and after-school athletics or music activities that they are more reluctant to attend church activities once they are in middle school.
Please pray for Sayaka’s salvation and that we can relate to her in an age-appropriate and loving way. She is a 6th-grade student who has recently started coming to church again. She asks me many questions when her friends are not around: what it means to be loved, what happiness is, and why study. She also is anxious about her future. She asked me why I became a Christian and told me that she used to think there was no heaven, but after listening to what the Bible says, she started to believe that there may be heaven. Pray for her to find hope.
Please pray for the salvation of Ms. E and Mrs. M, both seekers, that they will be led to decide to accept Christ.
Please pray that those churches’ networks will utilize all of us to be a missional community. We thank the Lord for strengthening the fellowship among churches in the Sendai area and Watari-gun.
Please pray for good preparation for the new school calendar year.
Please pray that we can maintain our relationship and connection with these youth and enhance our availability and awareness in inviting middle school students. Many children who attend church will graduate from elementary school this spring. Some have mentioned that they might not participate in church once they enter middle school. One of our junior high students will soon graduate from junior high and transition to high school. He informed us that he will become busier with school life due to club activities, as he will attend this specific high school with a special program linked to club activities.
Please pray that we can share the gospel effectively each month.
Pray for our outreach guitar and flute concert. We have distributed fliers to the church’s neighboring town blocks.
Pray for the healing of my rheumatoid arthritis. My test results show that the joints in my fingers are beginning to deform. Please pray that the symptoms will subside, and I can continue playing the guitar for worship and praise music at Sunday School.
Rakugo is a form of traditional Japanese comical storytelling and a new approach for me. We invited a gospel Rakugo storyteller, and I experienced how the gospel is shared using various creative methods. Twenty-four people came to this event. Compared to previous outreach events, most people attended this event at a friend’s invitation. Pray for those who attended and that we can develop friendships and build relationships with the attendees.

Our Easter service was a lively pot-luck fellowship, with some people attending for the first time and others for the first time in a long time. M.S., a 4th-grade student, and his mother offered to help with the preparations—the day before, we fellowshipped over a meal and prepared for the event together. M.S. dreams of becoming a pastry chef, so I showed him how to bake a cake. He told me that he wants to make cakes for the church from now on. Easter was the first time his mother attended a worship service. She told us that although she does not understand the Bible well, she was impressed by how Christians serve one another in the fellowship. She would like to participate again if such an opportunity arises. Please pray for the family’s salvation.
W.I. is a high school student who attends Sunday School and meetings for students. I had several opportunities to talk at length with her. During Easter Worship and other Sunday services, she shared that she felt the words “Acknowledge the Lord” were coming straight to her and said that right now, she is half believing and half not believing; thus, she cannot decide to believe God fully. She restarted her life at a different high school this spring, is thinking about her life, and is being urged to acknowledge the Lord. Please pray for her solid decision to accept Christ in her life.
Pray for the opportunity to deepen our fellowship with other churches. We will hold the 2024 church general meeting at our Church, and there will be many general and church network meetings in the same prefecture. Pray for the salvation of the families attending and that the families will be added to our church. Please pray that we can provide spiritual and social support for elementary, junior high, and high school students and wisdom for heartfelt words of encouragement for students anxious about their school life and their decision of faith.
Student M.’s older sister took the high school entrance examination this month. Her mother was particularly anxious about her daughter’s test result, so we visited the family several times before the examination and prayed for her. At the end of the month, we hope to have the family at our home for a dinner fellowship. Student M. is the only one among the family who comes to church, and we pray that his family will be led to the church.
Ms. N., who has been remembered in your prayers for quite some time, continues to be battling cancer. She was urgently hospitalized on February 18th and underwent a surgical operation. It seems that the effects of the surgery have been less severe than the doctor’s initial explanation. Thank you for your prayers. Through the process, we got to know her family and colleagues and let them know about our church and how Christians serve each other. We keep in touch to exchange information about her with the family. Please pray for her healing and my good testimony in this process to her family as our Church’s outreach.
I had to take the first half of the month off from ministry activities due to my wife’s infection with COVID-19. I was able to serve and worship with a confirmed negative antigen test. It was the first COVID case in our church, and with my wife recuperating and my activities restricted, I felt the desperate need to raise up ministry co-workers and partners. This also strengthened my desire to set my personal and ministry goal for 2024 to “equip the saints for the ministry of service” from Ephesians 4:11,12.
Pray that the elementary, middle, and high school students who gather at the church will be led to salvation. Pray, especially for student M., that he will be led in making a clear decision.
Pray for Ms. N.’s recovery after her cancer removal surgery. She has cancer in other organs and will start to have treatment at another hospital after she regains physical energy.
Pray for good preparation for the new fiscal year, that everyone in the church will look back to count on the past year’s blessings, and that we will be united as we head into the new year. For the 2024 edition of the church yearbook, we invite testimonies from church members and summarize the blessings of 2023.
Pray for my physical condition. The test results for my rheumatoid arthritis, for which I have been undergoing treatment, have been increasing since the fall, and my physical pain has been gradually increasing. If that continues until my next visit to the doctor, I expect to be on more potent medications. There has been a history of weakening of the medicines due to side effects. Please pray that my health is stable so I can focus on my daily ministry activities.
The church theme for the next fiscal year, April 2024-March 2025, “What Would Jesus Do?” was shared at the New Year’s Day service, Sunday services, Sunday School, Wednesday meetings, and the small group for middle and high school students. This past year, in 2023, we have emphasized promoting the daily habit of reading the Bible and praying. Then, for the new fiscal year 2024, we will encourage the congregation to practice the Word in their lives by following the example of Jesus.
Since November, my wife and I have been taking turns accompanying Ms. N, one of our church members, to the hospital. She was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma and breast cancer and has been going back and forth to university hospitals in Miyagi, Fukushima, and Yamagata prefectures. Katsue was affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami in 2011, and she was led to our church and came to faith through the recovery and reconstruction assistance coop after the disaster. She was the first member who was baptized at our church. Since all of her relatives live far away, we have been helping her with hospital visits. In January and February, the frequency of hospital visits increased, often taking a whole day, and my wife and I are feeling strained in our mental and physical strength and in the use of our time. On the other hand, I am thankful that the members of our church have begun to pray spontaneously through this, and we have been able to pray as one heart. We are also grateful that giving rides to Katsue allows us to greet people at her workplace and her neighbors, and through this, they have a good impression of Christians and Christian churches. My wife and I admit we sometimes feel reluctant to spare adequate time and effort, to be honest. Yet our heart is to be available to accompany Katsue, although it is challenging. We believe that the Lord will make these experiences meaningful.
During a kids’ event on Saturday, Mr. S, who attends the service, said to his friend, “You should come to the Sunday church service tomorrow, too. It’s a lot of fun.” I was delighted that the worship service was an enjoyable time for him. His friend responded that he would come, but the next day, the friend did not attend the service, but his mother came. We are grateful. At the same time, Mr. S taught me via his attitude toward his friend that I should invite anyone, including seekers and non-believers, to worship at the church. I realized that I was overthinking too much about the strategic focus on inviting our friends to church; instead, I should tell people about the joy of worship and how blessed it is to be able to worship at church.
We have a couple who are interested in transferring their membership to our church. Taking this as a great opportunity, we are starting a new study group once a month to share our vision, our view of the church, and the characteristics we strive to achieve as Christians.
Pray for Ms. N; she is slowly losing cognitive and physical functions due to the tumor. Pray that the youth who attend church outreach meetings will be led to salvation. Pray especially for Mr. S that he will make a clear decision of faith.
I was inspired by what Pastor Fujita, the speaker of the KDK (White Field Japan) Seminar, shared about his church planting experience, which was to set intentional appointments to visit seekers at their homes. I made an appointment with Mrs. E, who recently came to our church for the second time and shared the gospel with her. Her child used to attend our Sunday School but stopped coming; we learned that her child also stopped attending school. When we shared the gospel with her, she responded, “I do not have clear assurance about redemption through Jesus yet and we prayed together.

I am praying that Tomoko will accept Jesus as her Savior. She is working at several different job locations, and it is challenging for her to set time aside for regular Bible study, so we are now sharing the Word of God every week in text to each other on the LINE app, and the content of the sharing shows her sincerity and desire to entrust the Word to God. Please pray that Tomomi will be led to conviction and a salvation decision.

As a Christmas event, we tried our hand at a community cafeteria. We cooked before the service on Sunday, set the table with prepared food for the guests after the service, and welcomed people from the community and served them. It was an excellent opportunity for church members to serve the community. The believer woman who conceived this idea lives in another city from where our church is located and has not been able to participate in our other outreach events before. The weather was terrible, with snow and hail on the event day, and we could not reach the number of people we were targeting. However, we sensed that day was a significant first step. Some people came to the church for the first time, as well as families with their children. Moreover, because of the need for assistance and future cooperation, neighborhood residents and Council of Social Welfare members joined us from the beginning of the service and offered their cooperation. When we were supporting the relief effort and recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake over a decade ago, we were warned by the Social Welfare Council and others not to let our faith affiliation get in the way of the support and community activities of the church. However, this time, they continued to offer their cooperation after attending our worship service at our church and learning about our philosophies. We are grateful for the opportunity the Lord has given us in such a way.

Pray for each church member as they choose a scripture verse for the year and seek to live out the Word of God by following Jesus. Pray for healing for Ms. N. Since last fall, my wife and I have been taking turns accompanying her to doctor’s appointments at the university hospital in Yamagata prefecture for further treatment since no medical institutions within Miyagi prefecture provide proper treatment for her adenoid cystic carcinoma. Pray for us as we feel the time, mental, and physical burden of accompanying her. Pray for peace in our hearts that we will be able to serve her with love.
This past November was a month of many inputs -learning new things -as a pastor. The KDK, White Fields Japan, Seminar allowed me to reflect on and summarize my pastoral philosophy again, especially with the opportunity to give a presentation and to receive feedback from other ministers with rich experiences. I was able to refocus on where I am at in our church planting with a more organized view. Above all, I received many encouraging confirming voices and comments and was assured about being prayed for by many people. We are thankful.
We held a memorial service for a late church member, Shigeo. All of Shigeo’s relatives were non-believers, and of the twenty or so people in attendance, only four were Christians, my wife and I, and my parents. The Word of God was read, and we spoke of salvation in Jesus Christ and the hope of heaven. After the funeral, His wife, Tomoko, promised to have regular contact with us and our church, and we invited her to our outreach events. We also invited their children to attend church to see what kind of place their father attended. We will continue to seek the salvation of his family and continue to fellowship with them. Please remember them in your prayers.
When discussing Christmas events, the church members said they want to have activities to serve local families and children. As a result of that discussion, we decided to challenge ourselves to hold a children’s cafeteria, inviting people from the community. We are thankful that church members expressed their desire to serve the local community rather than just having an event for their enjoyment. This is the first time for Sennan Chapel to have a church-wide ministry with church members participating as servants.
Pray for the Miyagi Junior High and High School Students Retreat with the Conservative Baptist Union. Pray for the relationship between the local children, their families, and the church. Pray that young Christian families will be raised in the church. Pray for Katsue, a church member in poor health. She visited a local doctor for a swollen fundus, went to a general hospital, and then went from the general hospital to a university hospital for more specialized tests. During the examination process, tumors were found in the fundus of her eye and her chest, and she is scheduled to go to another university hospital for further examination. Katsue has no close family nearby, so my wife and I take turns accompanying her to the hospital. Please pray for the doctor to be able to find out what the issues are in her body and for healing.
The summer school vacation started in mid-July and during that month we had many opportunities to interact with the elementary, junior high, and high school students. We are thankful for new encounters. Erkio (mother) and Kotone (daughter, eight years old) attended the Sunday school for the first time and then signed up for the sleepover event. Eriko was working at a church in a neighboring town and was introduced to our church by a missionary unit who had gone back to their home country. She also was acquainted with my wife because she used to send her older children to the school daycare center where my wife worked. We learned that Katone had not had many chances to hear Bible stories before, so we were grateful that we were able to share the gospel with her at length during the sleepover. Her mother came with her the first time, but since then Kotone has been coming to the church by herself using public transportation. We hope that her mother will be able to engage with us as a church fully as well.
Prayer requests:
Pray for the salvation of the whole Yoshino family.
Masaya is nine years old and also participated in the sleepover and heard the story of the crucifixion at church. After returning home, Masaya shared with us that he searched, “Jesus Christ, nailed to the cross” online. He told us that he was strongly impacted by the crucifixion scene on the video. Masaya has an open heart to honestly believe what he has been taught. However, when he told his father what he had heard at church, his father told him it was a lie. Masaya seems confused about which is right, the church or his father’s words. His parents are divorced, and Masaya and his two older sisters live with their mother and only see their father on limited occasions. Their family uses a food bank run by a church of CBA and so we deliver food and have regular interactions and prayer time with the mother.
Pray for Masaya and his family’s salvation.
This coming month we will be sending participants to a joint junior high and high school student retreat camp. I as a pastor will be serving there.
Other events for the children include the film screening, the summer festival, a hang-out event, and our regular Wednesday meetings.
Pray for follow-up after the summer youth camp. Pray for the decisions given and the horizontal connections between friends among churches to be maintained and to grow.
We are in contact with the Council of Social Welfare and local care managers to care for church members who have dementia. Pray that we will be able to open the way for our elderly people to attend worship services when and after they move into a care home facility.
I am currently taking an end-of-life counselor certification course at a local general non-profit entity. Pray for my qualification and also to be effectively used in this area to give advice to the community people so as to gain more contact in this vicinity.

Our Congregation:
Pastor N
Pastor N’s Story
I was born into a Christian home, and in fifth grade, my older brother, in high school, passed away. This loss was hard and hurt us a lot, but at the same time, the Lord opened my parent’s hearts, and they became believers. I was far from the Lord, but I went to a church meeting, and at that time, I came to Christ. My faith began in that church, and then I started going to Sunday school, and I learned more.
When the Lord called me to ministry, it was clear that He desired me to leave my job and devote full time to studying at the Seminary. My wife and I prayed together, and we saw the Lord’s hand in this decision. I also consulted with my family, two of my brothers and strong believers, and they supported me. The Lord granted me grace and success in my studies.
My target area has a high percentage of cultural Christians. I started my ministry in this target area seventeen years ago, and we have sent out many servants of the Lord. Just four years ago, I began working with the refugees as well. Many of them have been sent out to serve the Lord; the majority of these are young men whose families are still in their home country. They have come here for work, and a large percentage of them are from the same village as me.
Recent Ministry – Family Visits
My wife and I were visiting another family consisting of a husband, wife, and their two children. The wife shared with us about God’s work in their lives, how they love attending church meetings regularly, and how God has dealt with them even though the wife is of Orthodox origin from our home country. The wife feels God’s work in her life and her husband’s life, and she shared with us how she is encouraged by her husband’s prayers at home and hearing her 5-year-old daughter tell her everything learned in Sunday school class She also shared with us about a sister who was attending the meeting with us and was of Orthodox origin. This visit was very encouraging for us as we witnessed God’s work in their lives and those who attended them.
My wife and I also made another family visit, and when we arrived, we learned that the wife had undergone surgery on her hand. We did not know that before we went to visit them. The doctors also took a blood sample from her and sent it to the lab, and she felt the Lord had sent us to encourage and pray with her. We did so, and after a few days, she sent me a message thanking God that the tests had come out well and that there were no problems. I thank God from the bottom of my heart because He can do everything as Job said, “I know that you can do all things and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.” Job 42:2
The Lord has placed it on our hearts to have monthly meetings with families to help them understand and learn about the Christian home, their children, the impact of society around them, and the impact of the Internet and technology on them. We thank God for the wonderful response. We pray that the Lord will protect our homes and our children so that they may be children of the Lord and servants of Him.
Discipleship and Teaching Group for Ministers
Thank God, we recently finished the book of Ephesians, and it profoundly impacted my personal life and the lives of the young people who were with us. Since then, we have started a new series on “The Fundamentals of the Christian Faith.” The reason is that it is both old and new. From the beginning of the church and its founding until now, the Christian faith has been under attack. Therefore, we want to develop a firm, steadfast, and unshakable faith in the Lord. We began the series on “The Inspiration of the Bible.” This series aims to cover all aspects of the Christian faith. My constant prayer for myself and my brothers is that the Lord will guide every effort and endeavor for the glory of His name and the expansion of His kingdom. Jude 3-4 “3 Beloved, although I was making every effort to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write to you and exhort you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. 4 For certain men have crept in privately, who were long ago designated for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into a license for sin, and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.”
Discipleship Group
I thank the Lord so much for this discipleship group. There are two sisters without their husbands because they work and are foreigners. The third sister lives with them in the same building. She is a believer who loves the Lord and wants to learn more about God’s Word. In our first meeting, we shared a clear message of salvation. Afterward, we began a series about the new man, 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” We also discussed the relationship and fellowship with God, 1 John 1:3 “That which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.” We thank God because we see clear growth and a desire to learn from God’s Word. We pray that the Lord will use this time to glorify His name and expand His kingdom.
Evangelistic Home Groups
Thank God for allowing us to serve Him among the migrant worker youth hostels. I shared with you in the previous report our longing for these youth and the establishment of evangelistic groups for the youth hostels. We continue to work on these groups and see God’s clear presence with us in every meeting. We worship, pray, preach, teach, and encourage people to develop relationships with God. One of the youth joined me in a home visit a few days after their visit and asked me to come back, and I will share with the neighboring hostels so they can join us.
Writing competition in the Gospel of John.
The competition question was about the personal encounters that the Lord had with individuals, how these encounters had an impact, the miracles that the beloved John recorded, and the practical application of the miracles. Also, the Lord said “I am” seven times, so I asked to write them down and a verse from each chapter. The primary purpose of the competition is to examine and know the Word of God. The Word of God enlightens the mind and guides, “The opening of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.” Psalm 119:130 The Bereans were praised in the Bible for their careful examination of God’s Word, “These were nobler than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.” Acts 17:11 I thank God, for I have seen through their writings that the Lord is doing great things with them, and the Holy Spirit is giving new light to the Word of God. I am happy with what God is doing with them.
Kingdom Workers Conference
I thank God from the bottom of my heart that He has arranged for us to meet young migrant workers with guests coming from their home country for this service. They are burdened with the desire to reach their fellow citizens with the gospel. The conference was a joint meeting between us and another team of evangelists reaching migrant workers in our country. The conference hosted approximately 79 people.
The topics presented were very important and very useful; we studied Preaching, Forgiveness, our position in Christ, Using the Internet in the (biblical morality) correct way, the Christian home, and the worker in contrast to the scavenger. After the meetings ended, I listened a lot to the reactions of the young people who were with us at the conference, and they shared many wonderful things. The Lord spoke to the attendees with a clear voice.
The Lord encouraged us greatly with what He did with us, and our prayer is that the Lord will complete what He began and that we will see the increasing fruit of what God has done and will do through faith with us,
Being confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6
We also pray that the Lord will bless the beloved ones who came from our home country for this conference.
Writing competition
This competition was in the Gospel of Luke, and it was about seven houses that Christ visited in this Gospel. The requirement was to write about the visit and then share practical ideas that we could put into practice in our ministry. Our goal was to help each church member gain the meaning the personal benefit from observing what Jesus did on his visits. We are trying to apply biblical truth into our daily lives.
For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
One of the encouraging things is that there is a group of brothers and sisters participating in this competition, and the Holy Spirit is making new enlightenment with them to understand the word of God. But I would like to share with you a message that a sister sent me expressing her gratitude to the Lord for the new understanding He has given her.
The text of the message is as follows: “Dear Pastor, Good evening. I hope you are well. I really thank you for your encouragement in writing down our study and understanding of the word of God in the competition, especially the idea of finding practical applications for my life. The competition, for me, has a spiritual depth. I have often read many parables, but digging in and determining how the parable provides some application in my life is spiritual work. The parable is not just a story; I needed to search and read more deeply so I could interpret each parable and put it into practice.
This member’s message encouraged me from the Lord. The main goal is to examine and read the word of God with a new depth.”
Prayers of Thanks
I had shared with you in previous times about the need for our church to have a van/bus to help people move and be present in the church to attend the meetings. We are constantly facing difficulty in this matter, and we prayed a lot about this need, but thanks to the Lord, the Lord answered us according to His good will, and we were able to buy a bus for the service. Our hearts are grateful to the Lord for what He has done with us, and our prayer is that the Lord will use this bus for the glory of His name and the expansion of His kingdom. Thank you to everyone who joined us in prayer.
Ongoing Ministry for your prayers:
Migrant Workers Conference
By the grace of the Lord, we will have a conference called “Workers of the Kingdom.” This conference targets workers from our home country who live in our city and the capital city. We will have speakers from our home country who are servants with a wonderful heart for this forgotten group in our society, the “workers.” Why I came to this country: my calling is to serve the workers from my home country. The main goal is for migrant workers to realize they are “workers in the Kingdom of God” and become evangelistic workers who desire to serve the Lord. This matter is fundamental, and we ask you to join us in praying for it.
Pray for us as a family to be fruitful in our service. Pray for the ministry here in our local city to expand in and through us. Pray for a van to serve the Lord and transport people to church. Pray for our upcoming spiritual days and the worker’s conference.
Morning ministry team visits
“I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because he considered me faithful, when he appointed me for service” (1 Timothy 1:12). Thank you to the Lord for this call and also for the help and strength that the Holy Spirit sends us to serve the Lord.
One of the most challenging visits was to a refugee family. The wife had adopted unbiblical teaching, and we had a long discussion with her. Unfortunately, it was a sad visit because what she learned was from inside a church, but it was a different teaching. It causes us sadness and pain and makes us think about many people led astray by strange teachings. We need the Lord to help us be faithful to Biblical Christian teachings.
We visited a sister of Orthodox origins. She began attending church meetings with us, and we felt the work of God’s Spirit in her life. During the visit, she was sick but showed thankfulness and praise to the Lord. We see a distinctive spiritual maturity in her.
Another sister, a widow with three children, joined us in the church and the ministry, and we thank God for her and her children. We see their spiritual growth and God’s dealings with their lives.
We had a wonderful visit with another of the refugee families. This sister told us that she was waiting for us to pray for her sick sister in a nearby country.” She trusts the prayers of believers. “The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up” (James 5:15).
During this period, we and some elders visited local church families. These visits aim to pray for and encourage these families, and we thank God that we saw this make a difference in the homes visited.
Evening visits to migrant workers
In the evening, my wife and I visit migrant worker families, encouraging and praying with them. These visits aim to encourage and nurture them. We also visit the homes of young migrant workers in our city, pray with and for them, and encourage them to attend church.
As an Evangelical Baptist church, we face challenges from our city’s liturgical churches and the traditional church. There is a migrant worker traditional priest who met another migrant worker young man who was praying with us and asked him why he went to the Evangelical Church when he is traditional. This young man shared with us what happened to him. Unfortunately, this happens often and in different forms. We need your prayers for the Lord to work and assure souls.
Church meetings
We thank God for Sunday and youth school services as we see growth and multiplication in them, and we thank God for the leaders whom God has appointed for this work as they serve the Lord with all their energy, effort, and love. The Lord honors us in the ministry of worship and praise in the church, with the team and outside, and in the ministry of education. I believe that education is an essential part of the life of believers for them to mature (1 Timothy 4:16). “Give attention to yourself and to the teaching and continue therein, for if you do this, you will save yourself and those who hear you also.” The Lord helps us to be consistent in the Word and always to make the Word of God have the highest authority over life.
A prayer of thanks to the Lord for the local driving license I obtained; the grace of the Lord accomplished this matter. Pray for my family; we are in constant need of your prayers. We need your prayers for us as a family, and we want the Lord to use us for the glory of His name and the extension of His kingdom. Pray for a car to help us travel for the ministry. Currently, we travel by foot or by taxi. Pray for the ministry here in our city; we constantly need your prayers.
A story from a visit:
We visited a non-evangelical Christian local family. They welcomed us but also had questions about the intercessory role of St. Mary. We presented them with the Biblical truth clearly and with love, as we want to know the truth, and the truth will set us free.
“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”
1 John 2:1
“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,”
1 Timothy 2:5
The Bible Study Ministry:
We thank God for this continuous and encouraging ministry. We are studying God’s attributes and their application. I pray that the Lord will use this time of the week for our growth as believers and for the extension of God’s kingdom in and through us.
Discipleship Group
I thank God for this discipleship group, in which Brother O participates with me, focusing on the book of Ephesians. We see that the group is very engaged in the teaching of God’s Word. Another encouraging aspect was when we shared from Ephesians 2, which discusses our condition before knowing Christ and how we came to be through God’s work and grace. The emphasis was on how we were saved by grace and faith, not by our own works, as God’s Word says, “8 For by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not by works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9. One encouraging insight we gained from their sharing was that they spoke in a distinctly biblical way, different from their previous expressions. They realized that salvation is based on the complete work of Christ, and we receive it by grace alone. We pray that the Lord will invest in this group for spiritual growth and proper preparation in God’s Word.
Youth Service and Sunday School:
We thank God for His work among this generation. We pray and believe that this generation will belong to the Lord. We have been encouraged by God’s work among this group of teens. We had a preacher who visited us and presented the message of salvation. At the end of the meeting, the youth were praying and seeking the Lord. We had a great time of fellowship.
Mother’s Day Celebration
In our Eastern community, we celebrate Mother’s Day on March 21. As a church, we like to have a simple celebration that aligns with the role of women according to God’s Word. We held a special celebration for the church and another for those from our home country. The event included worship, praise, and teaching. I shared about the Christian home. The theme focused on the divine concept of marriage and the roles of men, women, and other family members. “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is above rubies?” Proverbs 31:10
An Impressive Phone Call:
I was contacted by a young man from my country who was working here and previously serving with us. He has returned to settle with his family and he talked to me about what God was doing in his life through what he learned during the Bible studies. He told me about what he had learned here concerning the church in his country. He also asked me to share what we were teaching in our Bible study lessons with him so he could teach others. This phone call was encouraging for me. I pray that the Lord will give us growth in His knowledge and that we will be a channel of blessings.
“and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.”
2 Timothy 2:2
- I thank God for His work in His church everywhere and I pray that the Lord preserves His work and extends His kingdom within our city and beyond.
- We, as a family, constantly need your prayers in all aspects of our lives. Especially for schools and exams for our children. We still request your prayers for a new home for us, and for the annual residency permit.
- For the church service, we need a van or bus to help transport people to attend the church as my countrymen here do not have cars.

We thank God that people are coming to the Lord. In this community, the leader of Catholics invited Pastor Nicholas to his home and showed appreciation for what Pastor Nicholas was doing in the community, specially among the less privileged people by taking the gospel to their homes.
[Editor’s note: Catholicism in Uganda is usually in opposition to Bible-preaching churches and Catholic leaders are frequently upset when people come to faith in Jesus Christ because they no longer pay dues to the Catholic church. Bishops and leaders is the Catholic church can be witch doctors or at minimum, they consult with the witch doctors. To have a Catholic leader treat one of our pastors with respect and appreciation is unexpected and an answer to prayer.]

Warm greetings to all our friends and co-laborers in the Lord. We thank God for you and White Fields ministries. Thank you for the love and support you give us through your prayers and financial support. Because of your prayers and help, we have been able to minister to the community. May God bless you and the work of your hands.

We have seen God working in the life of Ivan, who is thirty-five and married to Shivan, thirty. They have two children, Evelyne and Brode. The family are residents of Butagasi cell Kigaaga. We met Ivan when he was drunk. Ivan had a bar in Kigaaga, and every time he got drunk, people would take advantage of this and steal his money and even the alcohol he was selling. We shared the Word of God with Ivan and encouraged him to change his business. Ivan believed in the gospel, gave his life to Christ, and started coming to church for Sunday services. He later changed his business and now buys and sells coffee to earn an income for his family. Ivan’s behavior has changed; he stopped drinking alcohol and is making significant progress in his new business.
- His prayer request is that God may help him save money to buy land for his family.

Godfrey is forty-two and married to Scovia, thirty-two. They live in Omukobusingy cell, Kigaaga, and are such a blessing in church. They have five children, Nabasa, Naume, Jordan, Jovitah, and Princess. Their oldest is fourteen, and their youngest is five. They live in a three-roomed temporary house and survive by selling hard labor and working in other people’s fields. They grow food for their family on a small piece of land that they own. We met the family at their home while doing our home visits. Their oldest son, Nabasa, was sick from an unknown illness. Godfrey took his son to witch doctors, but he had run out of money or things to give the witch doctors by this time. He said his son was not getting better even when he took him to the witch doctors, but he was still going to keep taking him to them. We prayed together and encouraged Godfrey with the Word of God. He believed in the Lord and accepted Christ into his life as his Lord and Savior. We encouraged Godfrey to join our home fellowship in Omukobusingye, where he could attend with his family. God healed his son through the continual, persistent prayers of the brethren in the fellowship. Nabasa gave his life to Christ. Scovia, the mother, accepted Christ and is now serving as an usher. Nabasa is in the choir, and the other four children are in the Young Ambassadors.
- Their prayer request is to be able to work and support their children in school.
We praise the Lord for the radio program. People in the community are coming to church to learn more after hearing the radio messages and to find fellowship in the local church. After hearing the gospel on the radio, four people who attended the church accepted Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior.

People are contributing to the construction of their church structure. So far, we have made one-thousand and five-hundred blocks.

Samuel is thirty years old and married to Judith, twenty-four. He is an Anglican by religion and has shown interest in the gospel. We visited Samuel several times at his home, and he told us he has been listening to our radio preaching program. We shared the Word of God and encouraged Samuel to visit the church and attend Sunday services whenever he can. He has come twice and says he likes it.
- We pray that Samuel will eventually surrender his life to the Lord.

June to July 2022
Our big event just recently was the appointment ceremony of Kim Jae Hyeon to be the associate pastor of our church, Nagano Shinonoi Evangelical Free Church. I played the role of officiator and we had a guest speaker, Pastor Motoo Iwai who shared the message.
Minister Kim received abundant blessings on that day filled with joy, congratulatory telegrams from all over Japan, and prayers from colleagues. We praise God for His purpose and plan by equipping this young minister for his devotion and service in missions in the countryside. We pray with hope for his future.
- Pray for the financial needs for minister Kim’s family to be fulfilled.
Naoki Suzuki is getting married this Saturday. We pray for the Lord’s specific calling on Him to be revealed. Naoki is in his final year of seminary and his desire is to be a part of several church planting efforts in the Nagano area ministry team. He hopes to get assurance from the Lord. Pastor Fukui is his mentor and coach.
- Pray for the wedding.
- Pray also for Naoki’s prep for his thesis for graduation from the seminary.
Chiaki is in his early twenties and works for a company with its headquarters in Nagano. A pastor in central Tokyo introduced Chiaki to our church and requested I mentor him as he is in need of special member care for spiritual growth and discipleship. Our former member, Kim H.J. is attending this Tokyo church as he goes through training for work in Tokyo.
- Pray for the spiritual growth of Chiaki.
Reiko, in her eighties, and her son Kumito, fifty, have been attending the worship service since the joint memorial service. They have been seriously considering buying a house in our region and near Shinonoi church. They were members of Ueda church where I used to be the pastor before. Kumito is praying he can get a job where his schedule no longer conflicts with Sunday church so he can attend the worship services. He would then quit his current work.
- Pray for clarity and knowledge of God in establishing our church regulations and codes.
- Pray for the salvation of ladies from the neighboring communities. Two ladies, Chieko and Ysauko have attended the rose workshop; they are in the same age group as both are in their sixties.
- Pray for salvation for Ryo, university associate professor.
- Pray for the health of Kim H.G. who works at a welfare facility for elderly people. He has been working there for two years and we are praying for him to be a light and a witness in this job.
Yuuki was called to become the associate facility manager at a care home for elderly people. We are praising God for this development as we anticipate Yuuki and Keiko playing a vital role at our church in the future. We believe that their service to the local community in the social welfare field will reinforce their servanthood at the church. They are able to have three days off per week, Saturday, Sunday, and an additional day, so they are happy with a good work-and-life balance. Upon their relocation, they will be searching for a house.
April to May 2022
The covid cases have increased in our area, Nagano, in contrast to the decrease in Tokyo where the number of cases has dropped. This increase means that Nagano city is now under alert level five, which is the highest, for covid-spread prevention.
Three individuals in our congregation had covid, and one suffered from a high fever. But both families recovered by staying home and isolating themselves from others, as per the advice of the local public health bureau. As a result, however, we canceled two of our regular prayer meetings.
Over the last two years, we never stopped seeing church members face to face at the church hall. But for the first time since the covid alert was effective, we held a hybrid service with both online and onsite being available. We actually treated the online portion as the main service for this hybrid one. Thankfully we had no further spread of covid in our group.
The two families had to quarantine for ten days but after having a negative PCR test, they could resume ordinary life and attend the onsite services.
For our Easter service, we decided not to invite a speaker from another church. We felt it was a homier fellowship this way.
- Pray for protection over the congregation. Currently, we are continuing hybrid services. Pray for no more covid patients.
Reiko (eighty-two) and her son Kumito (fifty), who we have shared about in previous reports, have been attending our church services for a month or so. They started coming after the joint memorial service. They participated twice online and came also to our onsite service.
Kumito works for the Shinano railway line. It is a local train line in the transportation industry. He often has to work on Sunday because of his shifts and the train schedules. He faces challenges on how to keep his Sabbath day holy. He started to seriously pray about his job, possibly quitting the current one and getting another one. He is searching for an answer.
- Pray for Kumito so he may be able to attend the service more often with his mother.
Megumi transferred back to Saku City of Nagano prefecture with the National Forestry Agency. This location is where she used to work, before she moved to our area of Nagano city. Currently, she continues to attend our church, driving the hour and a half via the highway, each way.
- Pray for the best in God’s hand on Megumi and for guidance for her.
Since the pastor’s residence along with the educational portion used to be an old inn and is a very aged old building, maintenance issues have begun to appear and replacement work for water heaters and faucets needed to be completed. These were large expenditures.
- Pray for this old building to be protected and used properly in the future.
- Pray for Aiko, who lost her daughters last year, to open her heart to God and to be led to the church.
We invited Pastor Motoo, a well-known pastor to preach for our outreach service. He often is the keynote speaker on the Christian radio evangelism program.
- Pray that this would be a time for curious non-Christians to come to know the Lord.
- Pray for the health of Kim who has been working at the welfare facility for elderly people. This is his second year working here and we are praying for him to be a light to others in his workplace.
- Pray for the salvation of Ryo, the university associate professor.
- Pray for the relocation and related preparation for Yuuki and Keiko.
Yuuki recently had his final interview to become the Associated Facility Manager at a care home facility for elderly people. Pray for the Lord’s guidance as they are relocating to our area of Nagano to help with our ministry.

Greetings to all our friends and supporters in the name of the Lord. Your love, prayers, and financial support have brought us this far. As God’s Embassy Katoonya, we thank God for you in our lives. We pray that the Lord keeps you and your families well.

We have seen God working through our church members and their willingness to contribute money to build our church. So far, we have made one-thousand, one-hundred, and sixteen bricks, and we still have six bags of cement to make more bricks. People in our community are willing to give their time and energy volunteering to make these bricks.
Beatress and Happy Judith lead the church praise and worship team. They meet every Saturday from three to five pm to rehearse and learn new songs to present during Sunday services. We do home visits and counseling for couples and youth.

Robert is forty-eight and married to Gaudah, forty years. They are residents of Katoonya in the fellowship of Rwamatere. They live in a temporary house with three rooms. The family lives by selling hard labor to work in other people’s fields and growing food for their family. Robert had a misunderstanding with his wife that ended up in separation and Robert’s imprisonment for three years. When he was released from prison, Robert resorted to drinking alcohol and became a reckless drunkard. He met Gaudah again, and they decided to reconcile. Robert gave his life to Christ during a crusade in Katoonya trading center held by God’s Embassy Katobo. He joined the fellowship. Gaudah later gave her life to Christ after seeing the drastic change in her husband; he no longer was a drunkard or violent but instead found time to attend the fellowship and even read the Bible at home. Gaudah joined her husband at the Bible study and then the church; now, they are members. They do not have children together yet, but they are hopeful in the Lord. Robert and Gaudah serve in the church. Robert is a church committee member. Gaudah is on the praise and worship team.
- Pray that God will grant Robert and Gaudah their desire to have children together. We pray that God will help them work hard to buy land to grow their food instead of renting land, which is expensive.
The church leaders usually stay after Sunday services for a meeting to evaluate the week’s performance and set the plan and people to lead in different areas for the next week. In this meeting, we also study the Word of God together as leaders, discuss matters arising in church, and find their possible solutions. We train them in leading fellowships, intercession, and church programming. One of our upcoming leaders is Penelope; she is interested in sharing the Word of God at the foundation class with the children.
Our church is reaching the community through fellowships, home visits, and radio messages. Every day at the lunch hour, the message on the radio is a blessing for all of us in the God’s Embassy churches. Many people in the community listen to the radio—some then come to the church because they hear the Word of God and the truth.
We have five fellowships that meet on different days of the week and in various areas. The gospel is preached to people around our community. Through home visits, we shared the gospel with Josephine, who is seventy-six. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior.
Jackson is forty-three and a father of three children. He does not live with them because when they separated, she took custody of the children. Jackson lives in Rwamatere cell in a temporary home. We met him at his home during home visits, and at this time, Robert was sick. He had an unknown illness that made him paralyzed for a long time. His wife thought he was going to die and abandoned him at the house and left with the children. His wife had sold all they had trying to get medication for Jackson but all in vain. Jackson’s mother took over his care. We shared and encouraged them with the Word of God and prayed with Jackson and his mother. We invited them to visit the church for Sunday services whenever Jackson had the strength to walk. The following Sunday, Jackson was brought to the church and attended the service. We prayed for him with the congregation, and the Lord delivered him and healed him. After Jackson saw the healing power of God upon his life, he believed and gave his life to Christ Jesus. Everyone was thrilled. Jackson testifies to the people in the village that Jesus healed him, and we give all the glory to God.
We visited twenty homes and ministered with the gospel to one-hundred and thirty people, ninety-four females and thirty-six males. We believe in God to save them in Jesus’ name.
