Join the Effort

As we approach the end of the year, I am amazed at the course of world events. Refugees are fleeing their countries; civil wars are spilling over the borders into confrontations between super-powers, and the global economy continues to fluctuate erratically. But, in the midst of all this—God is at work amongst his people. I read the reports sent by our church planters—that you help support—and there is fantastic news every day.

In the Middle East, Pastor Maher shares that the Egyptian Bible study started by their church has grown from fifteen men to over 80 faithful believers. We are now prayerfully considering whether we can support a full-time pastor to lead this group into establishing a new independent church. Pastor Raed’s church, just one-year-old, has established a school for refugees fleeing Syria. They already have twenty-five first graders. These children are not allowed to attend the public school, so the ministry of this church has a huge impact on these families.

Churches Grow Through Prayer

Answers to prayers are vital to the successful start of a church. We won’t have any answers if we don’t bring our requests before the Lord. We have such a tremendous privilege to intercede for the pastors starting churches in their communities.  Here are some highlights of the current prayer reports. We have updated the praises and requests on the prayer pages for each pastor.  Thank you for your support in prayer.

Argentina, Pastor Matias:
We worked in four neighborhoods: Villa Palito, San Justo, Los Pinos, and Merlo. From Sunday through Thursday we spread out in these places and shared God’s word.

On Tuesday, we had the entire group gather in La Palito. This area, in particular, has been blessed by God because we have seen most of our fruit come from here over the last several years. There are two small group adult meetings, two youth meetings, and one children’s meeting. At least 30 people come to our church from this neighborhood. [Read more about the expanding ministry]

David Spoon hosts Steve Wheeler on KPRZ radio, listen in as we hear the latest from White Field Ministries (WFM). “In the news today we hear of wars and displaced people, Pastors supported by WFM are assisting these refugees and sharing with them the love of Christ. Many of these refugees who have no documents, no birth certificates, no identification are shunned and discriminated against by the countries they have sought refuge in. WFM Churches in the Middle East are sharing the Gospel and providing educational opportunities for these children.”

The Whole Bible Points to the Cross

IMG_2446Listen as Executive Director Steve Wheeler preaches a sermon from the Epistle to the Romans.

Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. The Righteousness of God Through Faith But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it—the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. Your Prayers Have an Impact

The prayers of God’s people have a huge impact on the ministry of churches around the world. God has given us a privilege to come before his very throne of grace to intercede for people in need. Our pastors always thank me and tell me to express their thanks to the prayer partners of White Fields and make sure they all know that God is answering their prayers. They give the credit for successful ministry to the answers to your prayers.  The Apostle Paul asked the church in Colossae to pray for his ministry team:  “Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison—that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak.”  (Colossians 4:2-4 ESV)

We can join our pastor in prayer, asking God daily to give them clarity to speak truth with precision — and, to open the hearts of the people so the word of God will take root in their hearts and that their understanding will be opened as they hear the gospel.  Ask God to unleash the transforming power of his word in the communities of the churches. Pray for Us

IMG_0008The intercessory teamwork that you provide by praying for the needs of the pastors we are supporting is important in the overall success of the beginning of the church. The Apostle Paul expressed his sincere desire for the members of the church in Corinth to pray for his ministry far away. He shared, “You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many.”  (2 Corinthians 1:11 ESV)

God delights when his people come before His Throne of Grace and request his provision through prayer. The result also increases the thanksgivings back to God by the pastors and the people of the churches when they see God’s hand provide in ways they know can only be from Him. Your intercessory prayers result in greater worship to God. [Read more…] about Pray for Us

When Tragedy Strikes

Our Field Director surveys the damage by the recent Monsoon Flooding in Myanmar (Burma).
Our Field Director surveys the damage by the recent Monsoon Flooding in Myanmar (Burma).

Our pastors are present to help when a disaster strikes their community. The pastors and their churches are there because you, our supporters, provided for them to start a church.

A church becomes the perfect venue to provide shelter from the storm and provide relief for the long haul. In the short term there may be government agencies to deliver some rice – but these usually do not help the community to totally recover. Managed careful guidance provided by a compassionate pastor can have a huge impact for the communities total recovery. The pastors also watch out for the elderly and weakest members of the community. I’ve Been Praying for You to Come

You can barely call it a road. This is the final journey into the village area where our newest church will be built.
You can barely call it a road. This is the final journey into the village area where our newest church will be built.

— There was not much of a road to get to the place for a new church. The people live by subsistence farming in an agricultural setting. A pastor under the direction of our Field Director, Pastor Onesimus, had begun to minister in this area and about ten have received Jesus Christ. But, it is nearly a two hour walk from here to the nearest church in Rukungiri. Our Field Director and his team were showing us the site for the proposed church.

We were exploring the property to see how it might work out for a site to build a shelter that would allow the believers here to have their own church. The man in the dark blue shirt was described to me as being a “Muslim” man who was [Read more…] about I’ve Been Praying for You to Come

With My Own Eyes

— I had heard about how difficult life was in the rural villages of Uganda from our Field Director, Pastor Onesimus. But often it is when we encounter an environment with our own eyes that it sinks in. I have just returned from my visit to Rukungiri, Uganda. I saw first hand not only how deficient the physical living resources are in this town—such as the difficult travel to get to the place—but also how desperately they need true biblical teaching.

Josh, James, Me, & Onesimus; beginning our travels on day one.

The road to get there is dirt for much of the last two hours of our drive. The trip takes over 7 hours from Kampala, the capital city, and is an additional two hours from the next nearest “big city,” Mbarar. My travel partners—James, Dean at Southern California Seminary, and Joshua, my son and photographer, heard over and over that “Very few ministers come here because [Read more…] about With My Own Eyes

Visiting our Brothers

And after some days Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us return and visit the brothers in every city where we proclaimed the word of the Lord, and see how they are.” Acts 15:36 (ESV) —

It brings great joy when I visit the churches that have been started and supported by White Fields and I find them healthy and strong. That is what I found in Japan when I went to visit in April.

I want to tell you about two pastors whom White Fields has supported in the past—Pastors Hirooki Sekine and Tomio Ohashi. Both of their churches are healthy and doing well. Both pastors have also moved into new ministry opportunities. God has expanded their ministries so that they are now blessing other churches. [Read more…] about Visiting our Brothers
